The U.S. Department of Labor has released new guidance aimed at improving flexibility, reducing administrative burdens, and increasing transparency across the Registered Apprenticeship system. Issued by the Department’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA), the guidance is intended to help apprenticeship program sponsors more easily design, register, and manage programs that meet their workforce needs.

The guidance clarifies how Registered Apprenticeship programs are structured and administered across states, outlines the roles of state apprenticeship agencies and councils, and standardizes how apprenticeship completion rates are determined. ETA’s Office of Apprenticeship also announced a commitment to issuing final program registration decisions within 30 days of receiving submissions.

In addition, the Department introduced new online resources, including a data portal with apprenticeship completion rate information and a webpage providing greater transparency into registration timelines and performance. Together, these updates are intended to support program quality while making it easier for employers and sponsors to expand apprenticeship opportunities.
